Introduction

The Research Center at Berenice University of Architecture and Urbanism was established as part of the university’s founding in 2016, drawing on the extensive experience of university professors and academics in architecture and urban planning. The center is dedicated to conducting and publishing high-quality scientific research and studies that address the needs of Libyan society and contribute to its development, with a focus on the following Research Areas:

Our researchers provide specialized expertise and consultation services, while actively developing community research skills through local and international training programs. The Italian Building Heritage Program

The Italian Building Heritage Program is Berenice University’s flagship research initiative, bringing together academic staff and students in a collaborative, hands-on exploration of Benghazi’s architectural heritage. As an ongoing project, the program focuses on documenting and preserving the Italian colonial buildings of the Old City, treating them as living records of urban history rather than post-war monuments. Through field research, analysis, and documentation, the initiative promotes a deeper understanding of traditional urbanism and highlights the cultural, historical, and social value of heritage conservation. In doing so, it contributes to safeguarding Benghazi’s architectural identity for future generations while enriching academic research and public awareness.
